What to expect

Visiting for the first time?

You don’t need to bring anything. You don’t need to believe anything in particular. You don’t need to dress a certain way or know when to stand or sit. Come as you are.

St Michael’s is an affirming congregation — which means LGBTQIA+ people, people of all abilities, people of all cultures and backgrounds, and people at every stage of faith (including no faith at all) are welcome.

Worship services include music, bible and modern readings, sung hymns, a reflection from the Minister, and collective prayer. You don’t need to participate if you aren’t comfortable or ready.

St Michael’s meets modern accessibility standards and can be accessed via ramp from St Michael’s Walk off Collins St. We offer Auracast services for the hearing impaired, and our Order of Services can be accessed online from your personal device.

What should I wear?

We have no official dress-code — we encourage you to dress nicely, but in a way that is comfortable for you.

There is no requirement to do anything aside from be present. You are welcome to attend morning tea after the service, or any after-church programme, but this is not a requirement.

We encourage you to catch public transport if you are able, but if you need to drive, you can find metered parking on the street, or at a nearby commercial parking centre, such as First Parking, ACDC Garage, or Council House Royal.

There is no charge to attend a worship service. There is the opportunity to give offerings for those who are able, which helps us provide services, maintain the building and offer programmes to the community.
